Abstract

The Chronicle of Eusebius established a pattern of the genre and is therefore one of the most influential books of all times. It is a universal chronicle, both temporally and ethno-geographically. The Chronicle of Eusebius was translated into Syriac, but it has not been preserved in a separate manuscript tradition. However, later chroniclers used it extensively, preserving not only a large part of its text but also of its form. A chronicle of the model created by Eusebius (in columns with room for dates, names of rulers and events) was easy to supplement and continue by simply adding new material, a procedure which would not damage its very handy scheme.
